Following the tragic death of Johnny Gaudreau, many analysts have discussed the impact on the Columbus Blue Jackets.

However, General Manager Don Waddell emphasized that it is too early to talk about the sports ramifications of this loss. In a statement, he expressed that the current priority is to support the Gaudreau family rather than focus on the implications for the team.
"I know there are questions about our team, how we will move forward without Johnny, and the impact this loss will have on our team. Those questions will be addressed another day. For now, our priority is to support the Gaudreau family," Waddell said.

This loss has put the organization in a difficult position, as they now need to adhere to the NHL salary floor. The departures of Gaudreau and Patrik Laine, whose contracts totaled nearly $18.5 million, have reduced their salary cap, raising questions for the upcoming season.
Nevertheless, Waddell remains clear: the family's well-being comes first.
The league and Gary Bettman will also need to find an appropriate solution to accommodate the team in this exceptional situation.
