If there's one player on the Canadiens that was absolutely not expected to draw attention just days before the trade deadline, it's definitely Joel Armia.

Yet, this is exactly what's happening with the Finnish forward, as his name is currently circulating in trade rumors. If it weren't for the fact that he has another season left on his highly questionable $3.4M contract, Armia would be more popular across the NHL.
He's the kind of depth acquisition that a Stanley Cup-contending team would want to add, due to several aspects of his game that stand out more during playoff hockey, including his defensive play, puck protection, physical presence in one-on-one battles, and his knack near the net.
With already 10 goals this season in 43 games, insider David Pagnotta even believes he could be traded by March 8.
In connection with a possible trade, popular observer PM Perron has put forward an offer that sets the stage for something very interesting with the Florida Panthers.
Here is the offer in question:
"TO FLORIDA - Joel Armia

TO MONTREAL - Gracyn Sawchyn + a contract (Ryan Lomberg targeted here)

His explanation is as follows:
Paul Maurice appreciated Armia's playoff performance and his output in the conference finals. He improves a third line.

Sawchyn was ranked 24th last summer and was drafted 63rd. Has not taken the expected next step with a more significant role on his new team. A very good 'buy low' in my opinion." - PM Perron

The return for the Canadiens would thus be Gracyn Sawchyn, a prospect who was drafted late in the second round of the last draft. He has totaled 28 points in 29 games this season in the WHL with Edmonton, and 21 points in 17 games with Seattle. He is an energetic center player who plays a style eerily similar to the Brendan Gallagher of the good years, but with a bit more finesse.
This would certainly be an extremely interesting return for the Canadiens, and for the Panthers, Armia is the kind of acquisition that would add defensive stability to the organization.
Would you make this trade?
