The Montreal Canadiens will ultimately speak at the 5th position in the first round of the upcoming draft. Kent Hughes also discussed his plan for this choice.
In a press conference immediately after the NHL draft lottery results, the Tricolore's general manager provided details on what the organization intends to do with the 5th overall selection in June.
"At equal talent, we will draft a forward. We have depth on defense, especially on the left side. If we can get a top-notch forward, that interests us. But it could also be a right-handed defenseman if they are the best player available.
We want to progress from year to year, we believe it's time to be in the mix. Ideally, next year we will draft later."
- Kent Hughes to media representatives
We see the priority of the management and how they will approach this draft. Fans are clearly pleased to hear his comments. Now we will see how things unfold when the Canadiens make their selection.
