During a recent appearance on Frank Seravalli's podcast, the General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, revealed significant information eagerly awaited by fans.

Regarding the possibility of seeing another "Kirby Dach-style" trade happen again this year to accelerate the rebuilding process, Hughes confirmed the speculations about it.
"If we have an opportunity to accelerate the rebuild, we will definitely explore this option, but we will not make a move that is detrimental to what we want to accomplish in the long term." - Kent Hughes

This is excellent news for Canadiens fans. It aligns exactly with the strategy the management should consider, that is, exploring all possible options to improve the team's situation without compromising the long-term plan.
This means Hughes won't acquire a player just for short-term gain, especially if such a decision could have negative consequences on the team's overall strategy.
Also, his remarks indicate that he's not ready to overpay to add another major piece just yet.
Hughes also added:
"Two years in a row, we found an opportunity where we were open to trading draft picks or assets, like Romanov for Dach. If there is still such a player available to us that we think could help us next year and in the future, we will consider this option." - Kent Hughes

This confirms what everyone wants to see happen with the Canadiens during the offseason, namely another significant addition to the team's attack, fitting perfectly with the plan and the young core of the team.
Recall that some names have already begun to circulate as potential acquisitions for Kent Hughes, including Martin Necas from Carolina.
Journalist Renaud Lavoie had seriously suggested that the talented Hurricanes forward should be watched for a transaction and that the CH could be in the mix.
Additionally, there is a strong possibility that Trevor Zegras could be traded during the offseason, a name that has been linked to the Canadiens numerous times by experts.
Summer 2024 promises to be very interesting once again for the CH.
