Kent Hughes reveals surprising information with Jacob Fowler
The General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, has made a significant revelation about the promising young goaltender, Jacob Fowler.
In an interview with TVA Sports, with remarkable transparency, Hughes admitted he thought he had made a blunder due to the American goalie.

"The Canadiens were so keen on Jacob Fowler that they would have liked to draft him in the second round last year. The problem was that the organization no longer had a second-round pick: Kent Hughes had traded it to the Colorado Avalanche the day before, in return for Alex Newhook." - TVA Sports
The Canadiens' GM even revealed tantalizing details about his organization's strategy for the 2023 draft, before ultimately changing plans following the transaction involving Newhook.

What a stroke of luck for the Canadiens that the team's preferred goaltender slid to the next selection, over 32 picks later!
Among all these choices, excluding Adam Gajan who was selected by Chicago at the 35th overall, four goalies had their names called before Fowler. It's quite remarkable, it seems he was truly destined to end up in Montreal.
What's even more fascinating is that, as it stands, the Canadiens seem to have landed the best goaltender of the 2023 cohort, even though he was the sixth at his position to be selected.
It is turning out to be a home run for Kent Hughes, who could have had regrets if he had lost the opportunity to draft him due to the trade.
Ultimately, it's the best of both worlds for the Canadiens; they added Alex Newhook, and they got the goaltender they coveted at the 37th pick as far down as their 69th selection.
