Honestly, although I love Macklin Celebrini and believe he could become one of the league's best players in 4 or 5 years, I don't think this trade would really help the Tricolore's cause in the long term.
Technically, the top-7 pick in the next draft that the Canadiens hold will almost certainly become a highly talented player. If the organization has the opportunity to get a young forward like Cayden Lindstrom, Ivan Demidov, or Cole Eiserman, combining one of them with Caufield would have more impact in Martin St-Louis' lineup than adding Celebrini alone.
After all, the young sharpshooter is only 23 years old and is far from having reached his full potential. I still believe he can become a 40-goal scorer for several seasons, collecting more than 70 points per year in the process. Lindstrom, Demidov, and Eiserman also have the potential to become "point-per-game" scorers in the NHL.Celebrini is excellent and will be dominant in the NHL, but in our opinion, he's not Connor Bedard either. The CH lineup would be better with Caufield and the top-7 pick, rather than with the addition of Celebrini alone.
