Tanner Pearson may be on the verge of retirement
Some unexpected information has just been brought forward on TVA Sports about the end of 31-year-old forward Tanner Pearson's career with the Montreal Canadiens.
Journalist Renaud Lavoie gets straight to the point by suggesting that the remaining games of the season could possibly be the veteran's last in the NHL.
"With 11 games left in the 2023-2024 regular season, it's legitimate to wonder if the 31-year-old veteran has already played his last game with the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge. Journalist Renaud Lavoie even thinks it's possible that his career in the National Hockey League is over." - via TVA Sports
It's true that Pearson's campaign won't necessarily be remembered fondly by Canadiens fans, or by league teams for that matter. In 49 games, he totaled five goals and 12 points, half of which were collected during the first ten games of the season.
"The question I'm asking is whether there's a next step for him in the National League? He doesn't really have a future with the Canadiens, and I'm eager to see about the rest in the National League." - Renaud Lavoie
His career has been compromised by numerous significant injuries, and it now seems increasingly evident that he's in his last miles in the National League.
"We must not forget that this guy had problems following a wrist surgery last year, while he was with the Canucks. It ended so badly. He got an infection and it was botched." - Renaud Lavoie
Already not a speed merchant, although he is a very good leader, even on a bottom-ranking team with little depth at forward like the Canadiens, Pearson doesn't play like a regular. He has just been moved out of the lineup for the last two starts of the Tricolore.
"When situations like this happen, it's sure to have an impact on your career. This is the National Hockey League! There's always someone breathing down your neck."
As he will become a free agent this summer, it would be very surprising to learn that a league team offers him a contract for next season.
