The younger sister of the former hockey players, who was set to marry, shared her first thoughts for her brothers following this tragic event:

«To know these two men was to love them. There are absolutely no words to express the bond our family shared. The whole world knows there would never have been a John without Matty or a Matty without John. You were the best big brothers a little girl could have hoped for.

This will never be a goodbye text because I will never stop saying your names and honoring both of you. I will take great care of Mom, Dad, Kristen, Mer, Madeline, and your children.»
