However, Buccigross provided some clarification: they were returning from a rehearsal for their sister Katie Gaudreau's wedding, where they were both to serve as groomsmen. They were about 10 minutes away from their home when the fatal accident happened.

The Gaudreau brothers were hit by Sean Higgins, who admitted to having consumed 5 to 6 beers before getting behind the wheel and making a dangerous maneuver.
