Bad update for Arber Xhekaj: his injury may be serious
Saturday morning, Montreal Canadiens fans received bad news regarding one of the crowd's favorites, Arber Xhekaj.
Indeed, although number 72 played the entire game against the Tampa Bay Lightning last Thursday, the organization confirmed that he would not be able to participate in the games against the Toronto Maple Leafs and the New York Rangers due to an upper body injury.
However, a piece of information disclosed in the team's official statement was rather concerning. Indeed, the Canadiens mentioned that the cause of his injury was still unknown, as he was to undergo further evaluation to determine the exact diagnosis of his absence.
Moreover, in the last few minutes, a very discouraging development was reported via Maxime Truman. According to his information, the defenseman of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge is currently en route to the United States to potentially meet with a specialist or perhaps even undergo surgery.
"I'm told that Arber Xhekaj is on his way to the United States.
I don't know the reason for his trip, but one can THINK that he would go there for medical reasons.
Meeting with a specialist doctor? Surgery? We will probably know very soon..." - Maxime Truman
Knowing that the Sheriff had to miss 31 games at the end of last season due to a right shoulder injury, after having undergone surgery in Colorado, many concerns hover regarding his current health status.
It seems that Martin St-Louis might have to do without his young defenseman for the rest of the year. Obviously, we will have to wait for an official update from the organization to learn more, but let's just say that this news does not bode well for a possible return to play for Wifi this season.
We sincerely hope he is doing well and that his injury is less serious than expected because if the defenseman indeed has to undergo a second shoulder surgery, and that within just a year, his development could be severely hindered. It's really a shame since Arber Xhekaj was possibly playing his best hockey since his arrival in Montreal, where he was paired with David Savard on the second defensive line.
At 23 years old, the defenseman has collected three goals and seven assists (10 points) in 44 games this season, boasting an impressive +6 differential.
