Lane Hutson with the Montreal Canadiens: it is confirmed
While his signing is highly anticipated by the Canadiens fans, the very promising defenseman Lane Hutson has just made an announcement regarding his future in Montreal.
In an interview with Jean-François Chaumont from the NHL website, the Canadiens' second-round pick in 2022 mentioned being very excited about the huge weekend coming up for him with the NCAA Frozen Four, where he will possibly play his last games with Boston University.
"I'm still living a dream by participating in the Frozen Four again. When you grow up in the United States, you imagine yourself one day playing in this tournament. I've been watching this tournament on TV since I was young. I now have this chance to relive this symbolic tournament. It's always special. But I'm confident that we can write a different story this year. I really like our team and our group of players." - Lane Hutson
Hutson also made an announcement about his future with the CH
There are technically two games left in his college season, should they win the semi-final on Thursday against the University of Denver. The final game will take place on Saturday.
When asked by Chaumont what will happen for him by next Saturday, the number 20 of the Terriers did not confirm that he will sign his name at the bottom of a first professional contract in the coming days, but he also did not deny this strong possibility.
"I don't want to look too far ahead. I'm focusing my concentration and energy on the Terriers and the Frozen Four. When the season ends, I'll look at my options. But yes, nothing is impossible. I wouldn't say no to finishing the season with the Canadiens. We'll see."
Since the interest in a promising young player coming from the NCAA is to burn a year of contract, this avenue seems to be what Kent Hughes wants to do with Hutson. After all, he did it with Sean Farrell in 2023 and Jordan Harris in 2022.
If he were to sign his contract following the final game on Saturday, that would leave only the last two games of the season to see him in action, on Monday and Tuesday, for his NHL debut.
Should his team lose on Thursday, it wouldn't be surprising if he could join the Canadiens for next Saturday's match against the Ottawa Senators.
