Samuel Montembeault Shows His True Colours in Wild Scene Last Night
The Montreal Canadiens delivered a very solid performance yesterday against one of the best teams in the NHL.
Against all odds, Martin St-Louis's team managed to earn a point in this energetically contested match. Honestly, the CH didn't look like a bottom-of-the-standings team, and the club's best players, including Nick Suzuki and Samuel Montembeault, put forth a very solid performance.
As he did Tuesday night against the Coyotes, Monty kept his team in the game on several occasions with big key saves. It must be said that without him, the match probably wouldn't have gone to a shootout.
Nevertheless, an unexpected scene occurred after the shootout loss, as the Quebec goalie was leaving the ice.
Montembeault was outright furious, and we found the images in question:
It's not seen in the clip, but he also smashed his stick against the wall further down the tunnel towards the locker room.
"Sam Montembeault headed towards the tunnel angrily after allowing a second goal in the shootout."
Clearly, despite a second very solid consecutive performance on his part, there was something that the 27-year-old goalie couldn't stomach.
This sequence says so much about his character. He must have been furious to have unfortunately lost the game, even though this match no longer matters for the season since the playoffs are out of reach.
It's really beautiful to see how much Monty cares about his team's success, and these images are promising for the coming years with the Canadiens.
Despite the general failures, this campaign has at least helped to consolidate his rank as the true number one goalie for the Habs.
