In the last few minutes, major information has surfaced regarding a huge trade that was negotiated behind the scenes of the NHL.
We learn that the Canucks and the Hurricanes had serious discussions about a trade involving star player Elias Pettersson.
According to multiple sources, the Canucks and the Hurricanes had discussions about Elias Pettersson that reached a stage where he and VAN had to make serious decisions about the direction of their relationship.
"VAN ultimately opted for another attempt at an extension and allowed his agents to resume negotiations."
"No extension is settled at the moment, but there is certainly momentum in that direction." - via NHL News
Insider David Pagnotta added this in relation to the negotiations between the two teams:
"I believe names like Martin Necas and Jesperi Kotkaniemi were mentioned on Carolina's side. This happened for the first time more than a week ago, before my initial contract offer report last week." - Via David Pagnotta
This would certainly have been one of the biggest trades in recent years.
It will be interesting to follow what will happen in Vancouver, as a player of Pettersson's caliber, who is expected to surpass the 100-point mark this year for the second consecutive season, is likely to be costly on the trade market.
However, it is intriguing to learn that something very big was negotiated between the two teams. Pagnotta also mentions that Carolina would have included much more than Necas and Kotkaniemi in this potential transaction to match Pettersson's immense value.
