Some news has just surfaced regarding the Anaheim Ducks and their targets for the summer season, which also highlights possible answers for the Canadiens in a potential deal for Trevor Zegras.

Given the genuine availability of the talented forward in California, especially following the arrival of prospect Cutter Gauthier, and the fact that the Canadiens are looking to add a top-6 forward again this summer, Zegras's name continues to be a hot topic in Montreal.
During a recent press conference, Ducks GM Pat Verbeek publicly outlined his organization's needs, which explains quite well what Kent Hughes will need to bring to the table if he wants to make a deal for the 23-year-old American.
Essentially, he is looking to acquire a top-4 right-handed defenseman and a top-6 right-handed forward.
What is not entirely clear is whether he wants to acquire players already established in these roles, or if he would consider acquiring a young player with potential in the short to medium term.
In the former case, it is clear that the Canadiens absolutely do not have what the Ducks need. On defense, on the right side, there are no true top-4 defenders within the defensive squad.
The only one with any value in this position is David Savard, but due to his age, and the fact that he is not a true top-4 on a contending team, it won't work.
Among the forwards, the situation is not much better with Josh Anderson, Brendan Gallagher, and Joel Armia, all right-handers who could be traded from Montreal, but none meet the top-6 criteria.
The only possibility for a connection between the two teams is if Verbeek agrees to acquire a young talent who is not yet established. In this vein, the names Justin Barron or Logan Mailloux would make complete sense as a potential exchange base for a Zegras.
It is clear that Hughes would prefer to move one more than the other (Barron), given that he would need to go through waivers at the start of the next season.
This will be a case to watch between the two teams as the draft approaches.
