It's big news for the Montreal Canadiens, who are keen to add a high-level talent to their top-6 forwards. It's now confirmed that the promising forward Tij Iginla, a potential top-7 pick for the Canadiens in the upcoming draft, has been added to Team Canada's roster for the World Under-18 Championship.
"Tij Iginla joins Team Canada after a remarkable WHL playoff run. A strong performance here could be exactly what he needs to solidify his position in all top 10 draft rankings, if that hasn't already happened."
"There he is. Iginla instantly becomes the best draft-eligible player on this team and arguably in the entire event."
It's well-known that Kent Hughes and his team have been keeping an eye on Jarome Iginla's son for some time this season.
>It has even been reported by Stéphane Gonzalez from BPM Sports that the CH management has already met with the young man at least four times. This speaks volumes about the Canadiens' interest in him.
For those unfamiliar with the U18 tournament, it is essentially a showcase of all the top prospects from around the world, except for some juniors from the CHL, many of whom are still in the playoffs with their junior teams.
With the draft approaching quickly, this event is crucial for the final compilation of draft lists by various NHL teams.
Therefore, if Iginla performs well, it could significantly impact his draft ranking in June, and might even influence the Canadiens' decision to select him.
Iginla, 17 years old, a winger standing 6 feet and weighing 185 pounds, scored 47 goals and amassed 84 points in 64 WHL games. He also added nine goals and 15 points in 11 playoff games.
