An announcement both surprising and historic is potentially on the horizon for former Montreal Canadiens player, Shea Weber.

For those who may have forgotten, on paper, the former CH captain is still considered an active NHL player.
After leaving Montreal in a trade for forward Evgenii Dadonov in 2022, Dadonov was subsequently traded a few months later to Arizona, involving the Coyotes.
Technically, Weber has not played a single game since the Canadiens' Stanley Cup Finals run in 2021, but he still accounts for an average salary of $7.85 million, which is concealed on the long-term injured reserve list.
Why are we talking about him today?
As pointed out by ESPN journalist Greg Wyshynski, Weber will likely become the first member of the Hall of Fame to be affiliated with the Utah franchise, now that the team has been sold and moved to Salt Lake City.
"I just realized that Shea Weber's contract now belongs to Utah and that he will potentially be the first player in the franchise's history to enter the Hall of Fame." - Greg Wyshynski

This is a rather amusing detail that has given us a good laugh.
With a career totaling 589 points, including 224 goals, in 1038 NHL games, it's almost certain that he should receive his nomination among the hockey greats, in the not-too-distant future, possibly after the official announcement of his retirement.
It would certainly be a peculiar situation if Weber were to be presented as a member of the new Utah organization at that time, having never played a single game for them.
This would indeed be a first and unprecedented in the history of the National Hockey League.
