Just a few hours before the NHL trade deadline, the Montreal Canadiens' General Manager, Kent Hughes, finally traded veteran Jake Allen, sending him to the New Jersey Devils in exchange for a conditional third-round pick in 2025.

It's worth noting that if the former number 34 of the Canadiens plays 40 or more games in the 2024-2025 season, the organization will instead receive a second-round pick. Obviously, from a hockey standpoint, this is an excellent trade for the Canadiens, who, in addition to ending the three-goalie situation, receive a quality asset to continue the rebuilding process.
However, from a human perspective, this decision might be difficult for Martin St-Louis' men to accept, as Jake Allen was greatly appreciated by his teammates, having a huge impact in the team's locker room.
Shortly after Sean Monahan left for Winnipeg, the 33-year-old goaltender is now heading to New Jersey. A tough blow for the leadership group of the Bleu-Blanc-Rouge!
Moreover, the organization's new number one goalie, Samuel Montembeault, finally broke his silence following the trade involving his former teammate. While some might have expected him to be happy with the outcome, finally having the chance to establish himself as the team's leading goalie, Monty confirmed he was disappointed to see his partner leave.
He notably sent Allen a long text message to thank him for his support over the past years.

Clearly, Jake Allen has left his mark on number 35, but also on the entire organization. Samuel Montembeault's gesture shows how exemplary a teammate the veteran has been during his four seasons with the Tricolore.
Certainly, we wish him the best of luck with the Devils and hope he can achieve great success with his new team!
