Since Kent Hughes confirmed his intention to attempt another major trade "à la Kirby Dach" again this summer, at the draft, Jean-Charles Lajoie recently made a huge trade proposal that has shocked the hockey world.

Given the potential availability of Trevor Zegras in Anaheim, the TVA Sports host floated a trade offer idea that has left no one indifferent.
JiC speculated on a transaction where the Canadiens would give up Arber Xhekaj, along with their 2024 first-round pick (top-5 protected) for Zegras to Anaheim.
"To the question of the day, I've added Arber Xhekaj to this first choice protected top 5. To receive, one must give, and an asset like Trevor Zegras must be paid for. In other words, if Zegras moves, it will not be a bargain for his new team.

Anaheim has many good young defensemen, especially on the right side. I doubt they would pass up an Xhekaj on the left side. The sheriff is cut from the Western hockey mold and he would provide valuable services to the Ducks for several seasons.

So, Xhekaj and the Canadiens' highest top-5 protected first-round pick to get Trevor Zegras?!" - Jean Charles Lajoie

Wow!
Although I believe the Canadiens must absolutely make an offer to acquire a young, top-6 talented player already established like Zegras, if we have to overpay for his services, as Lajoie suggests, it would be a monumental mistake.
The inclusion of the Tricolore's pick in the next draft is outright insane, in my opinion.
This pick could very well turn into a prospect with as much potential as the Ducks' forward, if the club has the chance to get Ivan Demidov, Cayden Linstrom, Cole Eiserman, or Berkly Catton.
It's about acquiring a player like Zegras AND a prospect among those mentioned above during the off-season, not sacrificing one for the other.
I wouldn't trade a potential future elite 18-year-old player, who will enter the league with a contract of less than a million for three years, to add a 23-year-old player, costing $5.75M annually and who is having a very difficult season this year with only four goals and seven points in 20 games.
The Jets' late first-round pick, along with Xhekaj, would make far more sense, even if many fans absolutely do not want to see the Sheriff leave the Canadiens.
