Just before being fired from his position as general manager, Marc Bergevin left several bad contracts for his successor, Kent Hughes.

Among them, we notably find forwards Brendan Gallagher and Josh Anderson who, despite their determination and intensity, clearly do not warrant the salary they are currently earning.
However, we must also not forget Joel Armia's contract, who earns $3.4 million until the end of next season.
Indeed, the number 40 of the Canadiens is surely one of the players that Montreal fans would like to see leave soon.
It's rather unfortunate given that the Finn has the necessary tools to succeed in the NHL, but his blatant lack of consistency makes him an ordinary player.
It should also be mentioned that no team claimed him when he went through waivers at the beginning of the season.
However, he has been playing better hockey recently, which notably earned him a promotion to the second trio of the Tricolore.
Knowing that Kent Hughes could potentially retain 50% of his salary ($1.7 million), he could perhaps become an interesting option for a team looking to add depth to its lineup.
«If the Canadiens retain 50% of his salary, $1.7 million per year for two playoffs, he would interest many teams in need of a good player on the 'bottom 6'. He is good with puck possession and on the penalty kill.

I would look at Boston, Winnipeg, Toronto, and Vegas.» - Cotsa Rontzocos

It is clear that the 30-year-old veteran could become an important asset for a team wishing to make a significant playoff run. After all, he had been a key component alongside Corey Perry and Eric Staal during the spring dance of 2021, with a harvest of 8 points in 21 games.
At $1.7 million, the 6'3'' and 215-pound forward could possibly interest a few teams by the trade deadline.
Now it remains to be seen if Kent Hughes will agree to retain part of his contract in hopes of sending him elsewhere.
