Following the trade deadline, the General Manager of the Montreal Canadiens, Kent Hughes, invited journalists to discuss the trades he completed, as well as his intentions for the draft and the offseason.

The GM reiterated his interest in making another Kirby Dach-like trade by acquiring a talented young forward in the coming months. Given that the organization holds four first-round picks over the next two seasons, it wouldn't be surprising if he makes a splash at the draft to accelerate the rebuilding process.
Moreover, with an increasing logjam on Montreal's blue line, many observers expect him to include a young defenseman in a "package" to make such a trade. With the eventual arrival of David Reinbacher and the impressive progression of Logan Mailloux this season, a defender like Justin Barron could be sacrificed soon.
"With David Reinbacher coming to North America soon and the emergence of Logan Mailloux, it's not impossible that the Canadiens include Justin Barron in a trade at the draft or during the offseason, in the same way Romanov was part of the trade with Dach." - Bob Trask

This is interesting!
After all, the former Colorado Avalanche defenseman hasn't lived up to expectations this year, and his spot in Martin St-Louis's lineup is far from guaranteed in the coming years.
If the Montreal Canadiens really want to progress and compete for a playoff spot in 2024-2025, there's no doubt the team needs to add a forward capable of playing in the top two lines. This acquisition could potentially be made through a trade involving Justin Barron, who still holds good value on the trade market.
Certainly, it will be very interesting to see Kent Hughes's next moves, but everything indicates that we can expect an eventful summer for the Canadiens.
