As you know, Trevor Zegras' name has been at the center of multiple trade rumors over the past few weeks. Moreover, several of them linked the Anaheim Ducks' star forward to the Montreal Canadiens.
Naturally, many Montreal fans would love to see the 9th overall pick from the 2019 draft join his good friend Cole Caufield with the Canadiens. Whether we like it or not, despite Zegras having some flaws in his defensive game, his acquisition would propel the Blue-White-Red's offense to a completely different level.
Furthermore, during his appearance on TSN, the renowned Pierre LeBrun shared a frankly interesting scoop, mentioning that General Manager Pat Verbeek had received some calls regarding his star player.
"I made calls this week about Zegras (to senior NHL officials), and here's what I was told.
I'll be cautious, but I can confirm that the Ducks have listened about Trevor Zegras.
They haven't called teams to offer him directly, but other GMs have called for a trade involving Zegras, and the Ducks haven't hung up. They've listened carefully.
It's not a priority for them to trade him." - Pierre LeBrun
According to his information, Kent Hughes is notably one of the four general managers to have contacted the Ducks' management, thus showing that the Canadiens are officially interested in acquiring Trevor Zegras' services.
"And I can tell you that, among the 4 teams that have called the Ducks for a trade involving Trevor Zegras, there are the Montreal Canadiens." - Pierre LeBrun
It will be very interesting to see what happens with this case soon, but everything indicates that the Canadiens are indeed among the teams that wish to add the forward to their lineup.
Let's hope that Kent Hughes is ready to pay the price asked by Pat Verbeek, because adding a player of Trevor Zegras' caliber could change everything for Martin St-Louis' men!
For sure, even if these negotiations don't materialize into a trade, it's still excellent work on the part of our general manager. Knowing that a top forward might be available on the market, he didn't hesitate to give his counterpart a call to learn more about the Ducks GM's demands.
A first-round pick in 2019, Trevor Zegras has reached the 60-point mark in his first two full seasons in the Bettman circuit, bringing his total to 53 goals and 93 assists (146 points) in 200 games.
