Massive Trade Involving Josh Anderson and Brendan Gallagher Emerges
Since joining the Calgary Flames, Quebecois forward Jonathan Huberdeau has not been performing to his usual standards. Following a remarkable season of 30 goals and 85 assists (115 points) with the Florida Panthers, the veteran has only accumulated 57 points in his last 91 games with the Canadian team.
Adding to Huberdeau's struggles, he was benched during the third period of the game against the Nashville Predators on Tuesday night. The star forward did not make a single appearance, even though his team was trailing by a goal.
It's truly disheartening to see such a talented player struggle so much.
Following this harsh treatment, numerous speculations emerged on social media, suggesting that Jonathan Huberdeau might need a change of scenery to rediscover his offensive touch. A proposal involving the Montreal Canadiens was raised by Maxime Van Houtte.
"TO MONTREAL:
- Jonathan Huberdeau (8-year contract / $10.5 million per season)
TO CALGARY:
- Josh Anderson (4-year contract / $5.5 million per season)
- Brendan Gallagher (4-year contract / $6.5 million per season)"
Although the idea of acquiring a player who scored 115 points in 2021-2022 is very attractive, his contract, still valid for eight seasons, could quickly become a huge financial burden for the Montreal Canadiens. This situation could greatly complicate the rebuilding process started by the organization.
On this matter, Maxime Van Houtte is categorical; he does not want such a trade to materialize. He believes that the deal signed by Huberdeau this summer (10-year contract for $84 million) is possibly the worst contract of the salary cap era.
It seems that the Flames might deeply regret their decision to trade Matthew Tkachuk for Huberdeau!
"Montreal probably says no, I love Huby but his contract looks like one of the worst of the salary cap era right now, it seems like wishful thinking that a simple change of scenery would fix him." - Maxime Van Houtte
Do you think the Canadiens should try to trade for Jonathan Huberdeau and offer him a new chance to bounce back?
