Another major proof that Jacob Trouba is a disliked player across the NHL
The situation surrounding New York Rangers captain Jacob Trouba remains a puzzle thus far.
The defenseman has been the subject of numerous trade rumors since the start of the offseason, but he remains a Ranger to this day.
Since their season ended, the Rangers have clearly tried to trade their captain, but no deal has materialized.
On June 29th, a significant rumor had Trouba heading to Detroit, but it never came to fruition, surprising everyone.
Recently, it was reported that Trouba may have rejected the trade to Detroit, despite his ties to Michigan.
He reportedly added Detroit to his no-trade list after hearing the rumors involving him.
He waited until the last moment to submit his no-trade list to the Rangers, thereby preventing the trade with the Red Wings.
It appears Trouba himself blocked his move to his hometown to remain with the Rangers.
Steve Yzerman, the Red Wings' general manager, was caught off guard by this decision, having already made a trade to clear salary cap space for this potential acquisition.
In the end, Yzerman turned to Erik Gustafsson, whom he signed for two years at $2 million per year.
