This story caused quite a stir yesterday when the National Hockey League (NHL) found itself in an embarrassing situation over a specific issue involving goalie Marc-André Fleury.

As one of the most respected players in the world of hockey, the 38-year-old Quebecer has contributed significantly over the two decades of his career in the league.
Wanting to give back during what might be his last round this year, Fleury had the excellent idea of honoring Native American heritage, and by the same token his Native American wife, by wearing a very special mask.
"In the context of the Native American Heritage Night and to honor his Native American wife, Marc-André Fleury had a custom mask created by Cole Redhorse Taylor. A mask that quotes his father on the back and bears the names of his children. He is disappointed that the NHL informed him he could not even wear it during warm-ups or he would be fined."

However, Gary Bettman and the NHL reportedly denied him the right to wear this mask, even during the warm-up period. Needless to say, this refusal ignited a firestorm on social media.
Despite the league's threat of sanctions, 'Flower' kept his promise by wearing his special mask, to the delight of all hockey fans. We love his boldness.
Bettman does not look good in this story, and we hope he will reconsider punishing Fleury, in order to save face a bit in this matter that gives a terrible image to the league.
