It's been rumored for a while, but an announcement has just confirmed that Juraj Slafkovsky of the Montreal Canadiens will officially join the Slovak team for the upcoming World Ice Hockey Championship in the Czech Republic.
This will be the second time in his short career that CH's number 20 will don the colors of his country for this event.
He did so in 2022, just before his draft, leaving an impressive mark that certainly charmed the scouts of the Tricolore, prompting them to set their sights on the big forward, who stands 6 feet 3 inches tall and weighs 238 pounds.
He concluded his first tournament with a tally of three goals and nine points in eight games. It was quite an impressive production for a young man who had just turned 18 at the time.
This year, he will undoubtedly be the spearhead of Slovakia's attack, and he can count on Tomas Tatar and defenseman Simon Nemec, who was selected 2nd overall in the same draft as Slaf.
It won't be an easy tournament for a country that doesn't have a standout lineup. Our dear Juraj will have his work cut out for him, and it will be interesting to see if he can contribute almost single-handedly to his team's success.
Now 20 years old, Slafkovsky finished his second season in the NHL with a surprising output of 20 goals and 50 points in 82 games.
