Matvei Michkov joins the Philadelphia Flyers
According to the latest information from Anthony Di Marco, the Flyers' prospect and forward is leaving SKA in the KHL and will join the Philadelphia team starting this season.
Drafted seventh overall by the Flyers in the most recent draft, Michkov scored 19 goals and amassed 41 points in 47 games with Sochi HC in the KHL this season. He also played one game with SKA but did not record any points.
Initially, it was expected that Michkov would stay in Russia until at least the 2026-27 season. However, rumors about him terminating his contract with SKA gained momentum after the regular season ended.
Michkov was one of the top talents available in the 2023 NHL Draft, but he slipped to the Flyers at the seventh pick due to concerns about his contract situation in Russia.
Despite not being a fast skater and standing only 5'10", Michkov's exceptional puck-handling skills give him immense potential to create opportunities for his teammates and score goals himself.
Michkov's addition could quickly become the first major success for general manager Daniel Brière, who had only recently taken on the role when he selected the Russian prospect.
