This news might not sit well with many fans who have purchased a Cole Caufield jersey from the Montreal Canadiens.

A potential end to number 22 worn by the star small forward of the Tricolore?

Our colleague Keven Mawn has reported information that could mean the sharpshooter's association with this number might come to an end sooner rather than later.
According to journalist Stu Cowan, who has been covering the Canadiens for The Montreal Gazette for many years, the possibility of seeing number 22 being retired is very real.
Cowan suggests that we could see the retirement of the number of attacker and superb goal scorer, Steve Shutt, one day.
This CH legend played 13 seasons with the club, totaling 424 goals and 817 points in 930 games. He also added 50 goals and 98 points in 99 playoff games, helping the Tricolore to five Stanley Cup victories.
In such a scenario, although it is still hypothetical, Caufield would be obliged to change his number 22 for another.
However, he might not have to look far, as two of his former lucky numbers are available with the Canadiens, the #8 he wore with the University of Wisconsin and the #13 with which he broke the goal-scoring record for the American development program team.
If he had to make this significant change, Cole would not be at a loss.
