One of the biggest disappointments of the 2023-2024 NHL season is certainly the Ottawa Senators.

This team, which technically should have taken a significant step forward from last year with a young squad full of promise, struggles to be competitive with a mediocre record of 25-28-3 after 56 games, despite several significant acquisitions in recent years.
There's quite a bit of turmoil within the team's management, and after the dismissal of the GM and head coach during this campaign, there could be significant personnel movements during the next summer season.

Major Trade Involving Brady Tkachuk?

There is unrest among the Senators to the point where a major move involving the team's core of young players is being considered. According to Ryan Whitney, a former NHL player and contributor to the famous Spittin' Chiclets podcast, he claims that the Sens are testing the market for none other than Brady Tkachuk.
"The Senators are cooking something up right now. The 'Boys' have heard that Ottawa might trade Brady Tkachuk. I can't believe it because nobody could be that stupid." - Ryan Whitney

This is quite surprising, but normally, Whitney does not publicly highlight such information without basis.
It would indeed be a dramatic turn of events in the national capital if the organization were to trade its captain during the summer. Wow!
In 55 games this season, Tkachuk has amassed 25 goals and 47 points, which would project to a 70-point season in full. That's somewhat less than his personal best of 83 points last year, but it remains an excellent performance.

A Golden Opportunity to Fix the 2018 Draft Mistake?

If Tkachuk is on the trading block, it's clear that the Canadiens must absolutely inquire about his price.
Although it would cost a lot to acquire his services, the Montreal organization might have a very valuable trade asset up its sleeve: its future top-6 pick in the upcoming draft.
The Senators also have a glaring need for defensive stability, another element the Canadiens could leverage as this position is in surplus within their organization.
In short, Kent Hughes might have the necessary ammunition to make a significant move if Ottawa becomes serious in its approach to trade Tkachuk.
