WOW: Shane Wright Breaks the Silence on Being Passed On by the Canadiens and Makes Major Statement on Juraj Slafkovsky
While the Montreal Canadiens held the first overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft at the Bell Centre, Shane Wright was clearly the fans' favorite. However, to the surprise of many, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton decided to select Slovak forward Juraj Slafkovsky instead.
It's notably remembered that when Shane Wright was selected fourth overall by the Seattle Kraken, he shot the Canadiens' management a piercing look. The images instantly went viral on the web.
"His reaction in the stands of the Bell Centre, offended and impatiently waiting to be drafted, earned him a bit of a spoiled child reputation. His glance towards the Canadiens' table was no better received. Wright, a competitor, had expressed before the draft that he wanted to be the first player selected and felt he deserved it." - Nicolas Cloutier
You can see the sequence right here:
Let's just say that while many fans were disappointed with this outcome, the emergence of Juraj Slafkovsky this season shows that the management indeed made the right choice. Indeed, the CH's number 20 is simply on fire lately, having scored 10 goals and 13 assists (23 points) in his last 27 games.
Moreover, in the last few hours, Nicolas Cloutier published a very interesting article regarding the fourth overall pick in 2022. Indeed, when asked about Juraj Slafkovsky's play, Shane Wright surprisingly praised the qualities of the Montreal forward, mentioning that he would like to reach the level of play offered by the Tricolore's number 20.
"Slafkovsky is playing very well right now. Over the last month, he has been playing some great hockey in Montreal. Obviously, he is where I want to be. I want to produce in the NHL. My time will come, I hope. I have to believe in the plan." - Shane Wright
Still playing in the American Hockey League, Shane Wright is far from reaching Juraj Slafkovsky's stage. However, the performances of the 19-year-old inspire him to continue his progression to, one day, become a leading player in the NHL.
We wish him the best of luck in the future, as he is likely to establish himself with the Seattle Kraken next season.
At 20 years old, the 6'0", 190-pound forward has scored 18 goals and 14 assists (32 points) in 43 games with the Coachella Valley Firebirds in the AHL.
We strongly encourage you to read Nicolas Cloutier's article.
