Unexpected scene involving Brendan Gallagher last night
In this rather disappointing season performance-wise, the Montreal Canadiens found a way to thank their fans for their support by scoring an incredible total of nine goals against the Philadelphia Flyers.
It was a night that, after so many losses this year, was very enjoyable to watch as Martin St-Louis' attack seemed simply too dominant for the visitors. Indeed, in addition to the hat trick scored by none other than the Slovak forward, Juraj Slafkovsky, many veterans also stepped out of the shadows in this scorching 9-3 victory.
Indeed, besides number 20, five of the other six goals scored by the team came from forwards playing within the «bottom six», namely Brendan Gallagher (2), Christian Dvorak (2), and Josh Anderson. Let's just say that the former Arizona Coyote made his presence felt in his return to play, hitting the target twice.
Moreover, seeing a warrior like Brendan Gallagher, who has always given his all for the team, enjoy so much success was truly pleasant to observe. The small forward ultimately ended the match with two goals and an assist, potentially playing his best game of the 2023-2024 campaign.
In fact, as the Canadiens led 7-1 at the end of the third period, the assistant captain scored a beautiful goal, reminding us why he had once reached the 30-goal plateau in a season in the NHL. He completely fooled his defender to retrieve a loose puck and then beat Ivan Fedotov with a shot between the legs on a breakaway.
However, this goal seemed to irritate some Philadelphia Flyers fans present at the Bell Centre, as we witnessed a very rare scene a few seconds later. Indeed, clearly disappointed to see his team being outclassed and thus moving away from a playoff spot, a Flyers fan caused a surprise by throwing his jersey onto the ice.
A possibly adequate demonstration of the level of frustration of the many fans of the American team who watched last night's match. It also shows how solid the performance of Martin St-Louis' men was, a sign that the organization seems to be moving in the right direction.
Certainly, matches like these remind us why we continue to follow our team, even if the remaining matches no longer really matter in terms of the overall standings.
