Just a few hours before the game against the Edmonton Oilers last night, the Montreal Canadiens' interim head coach, Trevor Letowski, made a significant statement that, however, went somewhat unnoticed.

Indeed, he confirmed to journalists that he was very excited to see Kirby Dach returning to practice with his teammates, as he will undoubtedly be a significant element in the organization's long-term plans. However, he also made a very interesting revelation regarding the current role of the forward within the organization.
Obviously, since the third overall pick in the 2019 draft is injured, he cannot participate in his team's games. However, for several months now, Kirby Dach has been attending "pre-scouting" meetings alongside Martin St-Louis and Trevor Letowski.
"We love having him with us. He's been participating in pre-scouting meetings for a few months with Martin and me, but seeing him on the ice like this is exciting. He's part of our future." - Trevor Letowski

Wow! What a wonderful initiative by the Montreal Canadiens!
Even though the 23-year-old center is away from the ice, he continues to improve his understanding of the game by helping the coaching staff identify different trends and strategies used by the teams the CH is about to face.
There's no doubt that these meetings will be greatly beneficial for him as they will allow him to see the game from a different perspective than when he is currently on the ice. It's certainly a great idea to help him progress and evolve as a player, despite being sidelined.
This also explains why the Montreal Canadiens' forward has been seen frequently around the team in recent months.
Now, it remains to be seen whether Kirby Dach will be able to defy the doctors' predictions and make a return to play this season. Recall that at a recent press conference, number 77 told journalists that his goal was to play a few games before the end of the regular season, notably appearing very confident that such a scenario would occur.
All in all, the organization has an excellent player in their hands, and there's no doubt that Kirby Dach will be a key piece of Martin St-Louis' attack in the coming seasons. Acquired during the 2022 draft, he has accumulated a total of 14 goals and 26 assists (40 points) in 60 games since arriving in Montreal.
