Some very bad news has just been announced within the Montreal Canadiens organization, as we learn that forward Xavier Simoneau's season is officially over.
"Forward Xavier Simoneau will undergo surgery on his left shoulder, ending his season." - Laval Rocket
This is a huge blow for the Laval Rocket, at a critical moment in the campaign where the team is fighting hard for a playoff spot.
Simoneau is an important player for the farm team's offense, but his absence could be filled sooner rather than later with the potential arrival of a Canadiens player shortly.
Is Joshua Roy's return to Laval confirmed as of today?
As pointed out in the last few hours by journalist Marc-Antoine Godin and the Rocket's game commentator, Anthony Marcotte, it's very possible that an announcement of Joshua Roy being sent back to Laval could happen during the day.
"The Canadiens leave on Friday for a very long trip. With 2 extra forwards, it would make sense to take this opportunity to send Joshua Roy to Laval. Except he's having another good game tonight. The line he forms with Armia and Newhook is the best for the CH after 2 periods." - Marc-Antoine Godin
"Your intuition is right. In my opinion, that's where it's happening. Otherwise, it will only be at the end of the season. They should send Struble right away too." - Anthony Marcotte
So, according to them, now would be the right time for the Quebec forward to return to the AHL, to play in significant matches until the end of the season.
Moreover, with Simoneau's long-term absence, Roy's arrival would be more than welcome to help boost the offense of Jean-François Houle's squad.
This will be a situation to monitor over the next few hours.
