The Montreal Canadiens and the Los Angeles Kings are reportedly in discussions about a trade involving young forward Arthur Kaliyev.
Kent Hughes, the Canadiens' general manager, is looking to strengthen his team with a forward who has top 6 potential.
According to journalist Adam Proteau of The Hockey News, the Canadiens are interested in Kaliyev, a restricted free agent without a contract for the upcoming season.
Kaliyev, a 2nd round pick in 2019, has considerable offensive potential, with 71 points in 188 NHL games and an impressive performance in the AHL at age 19.
To acquire Kaliyev, the Canadiens might offer Emil Heineman, a young forward who has already been traded twice in his career and shows good performance in the AHL.
«Emil Heineman would be an interesting option for LA. He has already been traded twice in his young career, including once for Tyler Toffoli, but he seems to be a future depth forward in the NHL.
He is tall, skates well, and is constantly involved in the game, even if his offensive contribution is limited compared to someone like Kaliyev.»

This trade would make sense for the Canadiens, who have the cap space to give Kaliyev a real chance in a key role.
