Since Saturday night, the situation surrounding Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St-Louis has been on everyone's mind. Many fans of the Canadiens are questioning the severity of the incident that led the Quebecer to leave the team's circle to join his family in the United States.
However, as Jonathan Bernier of the Journal de Montréal rightly points out, this is not the first time a similar situation has occurred within the Montreal organization. Indeed, over the last five seasons, Martin St-Louis is the third head coach of the CH to temporarily leave the team for personal reasons.
It's worth remembering that during the series against the Philadelphia Flyers in 2020, Claude Julien also missed five games after experiencing chest pains following the first game of the playoffs. His assistant, Kirk Muller, took over the team's reins until the end of the campaign.
The same happened in 2021 during the memorable playoff run of the Blue-White-Red when Dominic Ducharme missed six games against the Vegas Golden Knights due to COVID. Ducharme's assistant coach at the time, Luke Richardson, who is now with the Chicago Blackhawks, acted as interim coach.
This means that players like Nick Suzuki, Brendan Gallagher, Joel Armia, and Jake Evans are rather accustomed to such situations, having experienced them in the past.

During Martin's absence, the players will face a big challenge and will have to double their efforts if they wish to generate some victories by the end of the 2023-2024 campaign. It will be very interesting to see how they respond to this adversity against one of the best teams in the NHL tonight, the Edmonton Oilers.
However, it's important to note that, despite his absence, the head coach continues to be involved daily in the decisions made by Trevor Letowski. Indeed, the assistant coach confirmed to journalists that he is constantly in communication with his counterpart, who wishes to help his team succeed, even while he is currently with his family.
Certainly, we are very pleased to see that Martin St-Louis continues to be involved. We want to send a huge wave of love to him and his entire family during these difficult times.
