Alex Newhook had a strong finish to the season with the Canadiens following an injury and appears ready and in good shape for the upcoming campaign.

The Montreal Canadiens announced via their social media that the forward will host the inaugural edition of his golf tournament in his home province and hometown.
The native of St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, is one of the few hockey players from that region to make it to the NHL.
Newhook was determined to create an event to raise funds for three causes that are important to him. It is not surprising to see a hockey player organizing a golf tournament for this purpose.
This sold-out event will support three important organizations: the Cancer Care Foundation, Iris Kirby House, and The REAL Program. The latter, a nonprofit organization that assists families facing financial challenges, will be the primary beneficiary of the tournament.

«It's what touched me the most personally. I was very fortunate to be able to play sports growing up, and I wouldn't be where I am today without that privilege,» Newhook explained about choosing The REAL Program as the main beneficiary.

«Being in the position I am today, with the platform I have, I thought it would be a good thing to raise funds for local charities, giving back to the community.»

In fact, Newhook has been contributing for some time already. During his day with the Stanley Cup in 2022, the Newfoundland native helped raise over $11,000 for The REAL Program, which funded opportunities for young people to participate in sports and various programs.

Newhook felt the impact through his father, a technical director for a minor hockey association, who witnessed young players being given the opportunity to play when they might not have had the chance otherwise.

«It touched me,» Newhook admitted. «I just want to get something like this started and make sure it continues.»

When it comes to Newfoundland and Labrador, few people have represented the province like the late Bob Cole, who recently hosted a charity golf tournament there. Today, Newhook hopes to bring some pride to the famous sports commentator up there, as the tradition continues down here.

«When we think of local figures who have made an impact on the community, he is certainly one of them,» said the 23-year-old forward. «With his recent passing, it's nice to be able to pay a little tribute by doing what he did, and I believe he would be proud of what's happening here.»

Three Canadiens players—Josh Anderson, Justin Barron, and Jayden Struble—are among the 33 teams expected on the Canadian east coast for the event, which will also feature a silent auction, a signing session, and a Q&A session.

A great cause for forward Alex Newhook, who is eager to play a significant role in the Montreal Canadiens' offense next season.
