In the past two months, several high-profile forwards such as Martin Necas, Trevor Zegras, Rutger McGroarty, Jonathan Marchessault, and Patrik Laine have been linked to the Montreal Canadiens in trade rumors.

Kent Hughes, the Canadiens' general manager, had announced that he was looking to acquire a top forward to strengthen the top two lines. Reports indicate that Hughes attempted to trade with the Winnipeg Jets for McGroarty and explored negotiations with Marchessault.
However, Pierre McGuire revealed on the *Sick Podcast* that the Canadiens' recruitment activities are now concluded. The lineup for the October 9th season opener in Toronto is expected to remain unchanged, leaving gaps in the second offensive line.
Ivan Demidov, selected in the draft, could become a promising option but will only join the team in the 2025-26 season.
