Major announcement from the Montreal Canadiens regarding their confidence in Juraj Slafkovsky.
The first overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft will be in Montreal for the long haul.
Ahead of Kent Hughes' press conference, the Canadiens organization announced an eight-season contract extension for Juraj Slafkovsky worth a total of 60.8 million dollars.
This translates to an average annual salary of 7.6 million dollars for the Slovak.
This is the maximum duration currently allowed in the NHL. Slaf had a breakout season last year with quality ice time on the first line alongside Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield.
He ended the season with 50 points, including 20 goals, and it appears to be just the beginning of his progression on the ice.
