Incredible News Confirmed for Jacob Fowler in the NCAA
The Montreal Canadiens just shared a really interesting official statement about a recent major acquisition at the last draft, the promising Jacob Fowler.
"Our prospect Jacob Fowler is officially a finalist for the Mike Richter Award, given to the best NCAA goaltender." - Montreal Canadiens
The Tricolore's third-round pick in 2023 is therefore among the three finalists for the title of the best college goaltender in the country. This is truly remarkable, especially since Fowler is a rookie this year in the NCAA.
He even surpassed three goaltenders selected before him playing in the college circuit, namely Adam Gajan, Michael Hrabal, and Trey Augustine, all chosen in the second round of the draft.
At this point, the Canadiens seem to have gotten their hands on the best goaltender of the 2023 cohort with the 19-year-old American, even though he was the sixth of his position to be selected.
He is thus becoming a home run for Kent Hughes and his team.
Moreover, recently, the young talent expert at The Athletic, Scott Wheeler, ranked Fowler in third place among all goaltending prospects aged 23 and under, not playing regularly in the NHL.
He was behind Jesper Wallstedt and Yaroslav Askarov, but ahead of Spencer Knight, Devon Levi, and Dustin Wolf, among others.
Here are the statistics of the three finalists for the Mike Richter Award:
Jacob Fowler (19 years old): average of 2.19 / a save percentage of 0.924 / record of 28-5-1 / two shutouts
Kaidan Mbereko (20 years old): average of 2.40 / a save percentage of 0.915 / record of 21-13-3 / no shutouts
Kyle McClellan (25 years old): average of 1.92 / a save percentage of 0.931 / record of 24-11-1 / 7 shutouts
