A significant figure in the history of the Nordiques has passed away
The NHL has announced the sad loss of a key figure in the history of the Quebec Nordiques. Gilles Léger passed away at the age of 83 due to pneumonia.
He was the principal architect behind the arrival of the Stastny brothers-Peter, Anton, and Marian-in Quebec. It was he who suggested to Marcel Aubut to make the bold attempt to bring them to North America.
Léger discovered the Slovak talents, particularly Peter's, during an international competition.
At that time, Gilles Léger was serving as the assistant to the general manager of the Nordiques.
Mr. Léger also worked for the Rangers and the Oilers throughout his long career in the NHL.
An often underappreciated figure in the history of the Quebec Nordiques, Léger's efforts were crucial; without him, the Stastny brothers would likely never have played in the NHL.
Our condolences to his family.
