Jayden Struble Sends a Message to Canadiens Fans
Over the past few years, a pleasing trend seems to be emerging with the Montreal Canadiens. As was notably the case with Arber Xhekaj, who surprised many by securing a spot in the lineup for the 2022-2023 season, another defenseman in the organization is now greatly impressing with his recent excellent performances.
Of course, we're talking about Jayden Struble, the former defenseman from Northeastern University. Taking advantage of the numerous injuries in the Montreal defensive corps, the Canadiens' prospect has certainly seized this opportunity to showcase his talent to the team's management.
So much so that after only a few games in the Blue-White-Red uniform, number 47 has already become indispensable for head coach Martin St-Louis, notably leading to Arber Xhekaj being sent down to the American Hockey League.
Highly reliable in defensive territory, Jayden Struble is also capable of applying solid checks to counter his opponents. Moreover, despite his imposing physique (6'0" and 205 pounds), the 22-year-old is very mobile on the ice, possessing remarkable skating skills. It's also noticeable that he loves to move forward, never hesitating to support the attack when an opportunity arises.
Wow! What a beautiful goal!
This sequence is concrete proof of his abilities to carry the puck and also to choose opportune moments to support the attack. Certainly, if the defenseman continues to play this way, he can definitely say goodbye to the AHL, as he might spend the entire season with the major club.
After the game against the Penguins, Jayden Struble reflected on his goal, his first in front of the Canadiens fans at the Bell Centre. Despite the loss, he was beaming, unable to contain his emotions after this magical moment.
"Every time I've played here, I wanted to score, just to know what it felt like, and it lived up to my expectations - there was an incredible atmosphere, so I'm happy." - Jayden Struble
Judging by the defender's comments, there's no doubt he loves playing in front of the Montreal crowd. Now that he has practically secured his spot in the Canadiens' lineup, it will be very interesting to watch his progression throughout the season. Although he has only played 11 games, he seems to possess immense potential, potentially becoming a key piece in the team's success.
"It's great! It's amazing! Every time something happens, you hear this roar. Every time I step on the ice, I look up and see all the fans, it's an incredible feeling and I'm grateful to be here." - Jayden Struble
Selected 46th overall in the 2019 draft, Jayden Struble could make Marc Bergevin look like a genius if he continues to perform at such a high level match after match.
