Detroit Red Wings General Manager Steve Yzerman was highly active with two trades in the same day. Both deals were criticized by fans.

Firstly, the Red Wings sent promising defenseman Andrew Gibson to Nashville in exchange for a 2024 2nd-round draft pick and winger Jesse Kiiskinen.
Yzerman then used this newly acquired 2nd-round pick to send defenseman Jake Walman to San Jose in exchange for future considerations.
Currently, the Wings have only acquired a Finnish winger after parting ways with a prospect, an NHL player, and a 2nd-round pick.
