While the Montreal Canadiens' season is surprising and interesting, unfortunately, the same cannot be said for their farm team, the Laval Rocket.

In eight games played, Jean-François Houle's team finds itself at the bottom of the North Division, with a record of 1-6-1. In a way, given that the team is very young with several rookie players, this is a normal stage that is part of the learning process.
Reflecting his team, the first professional games of Logan Mailloux have not been impressive.
The first-round pick in 2021 has scored two goals so far, in eight games. However, it is his defensive play that is more problematic. He ranks third for the worst differential in the league, at -9.
When questioned about the performance of his young charge, Houle exercised caution by mentioning that it is part of his development.
«He still has a lot of mileage to go. Yes, he's a good player. Yes, he's projected to be a very great player. But I think it starts at the base, and he has a lot of things to improve, just like all the other young players.» - Jean-François Houle

Mailloux's rather disappointing results change nothing about his potential. Like many young players who take their first skate in Laval, including Joshua Roy, it is necessary to remain patient with them so that they can progress to the maximum, in order to be ready when it's time to make the jump.
The 20-year-old defenseman himself commented on his unflattering record by mentioning that he also had things to fine-tune.
«It's certainly not a goal I was aiming for, I can tell you that. In golf, it would probably get me the green jacket or something! But summer has been over for a long time. If we look at these goals more closely, sometimes it's my fault, sometimes it's not.» - Logan Mailloux

However, he will have to learn that even if it's not his fault when a goal is scored and he is on the play, he must still be accountable for the result and must find solutions to help his club.
