As the trade deadline approached, Jordan Harris's name, surprisingly, circulated in various trade rumors, leading some to wonder if his future really lies with the Montreal Canadiens.

After all, the 23-year-old has already been relegated to the role of sixth defenseman this year, notably having to watch several games from the press box.
Moreover, knowing that number 54 is currently struggling to establish himself in the defensive brigade does not bode well for the future, especially as he will soon have to compete with hungry young prospects like Lane Hutson, David Reinbacher, and Logan Mailloux.
Clearly, the depth at the defenseman position could push Kent Hughes to find him a new team, one where he rightfully deserves an opportunity to assert himself as an NHL defenseman in another market.
See what Marc-Olivier Beaudoin recently stated via his Twitter account:
"I really like Jordan Harris - the player and the guy - but I think he'll be one of the 'odd man out' on the CH's blue line this summer.

But I don't want a pick for him. Rather a forward in the same situation as him. So, it will be necessary to find the right 'fit'!" - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin

In this regard, we must not forget that the GM of the Tricolore stated during his most recent press briefing that he wanted to be a buyer at the draft in order to improve his team for the next season.
Based on Kent Hughes's comments, we can therefore expect him to continue the strategy implemented in the last two drafts, i.e., trading "assets" (draft picks/defensemen) to acquire a talented young forward who is looking for a change of scenery to reach his full potential.
Moreover, Marc-Olivier Beaudoin has identified a forward who, despite underwhelming statistics, possesses very high potential and could potentially flourish under the guidance of head coach Martin St-Louis.
"An example? Peyton Krebs.

It's not working out for him because he doesn't get enough ice time due to a large number of young forwards. And there are many in the 'pipeline.'

The CH might have to add a little. But Harris would be top 6 caliber in Buffalo!" - Marc-Olivier Beaudoin

This is interesting!
We're talking about a center who was selected 17th overall by the Vegas Golden Knights, who also scored 8 points in 7 games with Canada at the 2021 World Junior Championship.
Acquired in the trade involving Jack Eichel, the forward had an interesting start with the Buffalo Sabres, accumulating 22 points in 48 games. Unfortunately, his playing time has significantly decreased since, being primarily used on the third or fourth line of the team.
Nonetheless, Peyton Krebs possesses immense talent and could potentially be the missing piece in the Montreal top-6. Since his arrival in the NHL, the 23-year-old center has recorded 19 goals and 43 assists (62 points) in 199 games, statistics that are rather similar to those of Kirby Dach and Alex Newhook at the time of their acquisition.
