The Canadiens on the Verge of Adding Quebecois Forward to the Roster?
In the last few hours, the excellent Elliotte Friedman revealed major news concerning a Quebecois forward during his podcast 32 Thoughts. Indeed, he indicated that the San Jose Sharks are looking to trade Anthony Duclair, adding that several teams in the Bettman circuit have already shown interest.
Moreover, it's noteworthy that head coach David Quinn scratched Anthony Duclair from the lineup in the last game, even though the forward was in full health. Understandably, this decision quickly raised numerous questions about the possibility of him being traded in the near future.
It's quite possible that Mike Grier himself made such a request to his coach to prevent the Pointe-Claire native from getting injured, thus jeopardizing a potential trade.
Furthermore, journalist Jérémy Filosa seemed to link the Quebecois forward to the Montreal Canadiens, mentioning that Anthony Duclair has always wanted to play for the Holy Flannel. Given that the Canadiens are struggling significantly to score, he could represent an excellent option to help the Montreal offense.
Additionally, since his three-million-dollar contract ends at the end of this season, the financial risk would be virtually nonexistent. If the 28-year-old left winger impresses the management, Kent Hughes might consider offering him a contract extension this summer, while if he fails to stand out, the CH could let him test the free agent market this summer.
Would you like to see Anthony Duclair in the Canadiens' uniform?
Anthony Duclair's statistics in his last five seasons:
· 2019-2020: 23 goals and 17 assists (40 points) in 66 games with the Ottawa Senators
· 2020-2021: 10 goals and 22 assists (32 points) in 43 games with the Florida Panthers
· 2021-2022: 31 goals and 27 assists (58 points) in 74 games with the Florida Panthers
· 2022-2023: 2 goals and 7 assists (9 points) in 20 games with the Florida Panthers
· 2023-2024: 6 goals and 5 assists (11 points) in 27 games with the San Jose Sharks
There's no doubt that Anthony Duclair could be a great help within the top three lines of Martin St-Louis, being able to bring an interesting offensive contribution while playing with talented young players. It remains to be seen if the general manager of the Canadiens, Kent Hughes, will be interested in acquiring him.
This will be a dossier to closely watch in the coming weeks!
