Earlier this summer, former Montreal Canadiens forward Jonathan Drouin made a major decision by deciding to join his good friend, Nathan MacKinnon, in Colorado. Indeed, the Quebecer signed a one-season deal with the Avalanche in the hopes of relaunching his career and finding his offensive groove again.
Unfortunately, number 27 did not have the start to the season he had hoped for, amassing only one assist in his first ten games. Starting the year on the first line, he was even relegated to the fourth unit, raising serious questions about his ability to still make a significant offensive contribution in the NHL.
However, things are slowly starting to improve for the Sainte-Agathe native, who has collected nine points in his last fourteen games. Moreover, he managed to get on the scoresheet in the last three games, accumulating one goal and three assists the previous week.
In a recent interview with Guillaume Lefrancois of La Presse, Jonathan Drouin admitted that he is acclimatizing very well to his new life in Colorado, now enjoying a much less hectic daily routine than he had during his time with the Canadiens.
"« Hockey is still big, but you can get away from it. I can go to the butcher now, ask the butcher what kind of steak he received this week. My life is a bit more open, more relaxed. » - Jonathan Drouin"
He is particularly satisfied with the hockey aspect, even though he would certainly like to contribute more to the success of his new team. Nonetheless, the Avalanche currently ranks first in the Central Division with an impressive haul of 40 points (19-10-2) in 31 games, and should, barring an incredible turnaround, participate in the playoffs for the first time since 2019-2020.
"« It's pretty much what I expected. It's even a little better. The guys are hungry, they want to win, they experienced it two years ago. They know the feeling of winning. The new guys, we've been well integrated. The coach is good. » - Jonathan Drouin"
However, despite the Avalanche's success, the former third overall pick indicated that he really misses the vibrant atmosphere of the Bell Centre, where he loved playing in front of the Montreal fans. He also added that he misses some teammates a lot, having built very good relationships with several players of the Canadiens during his six years in Montreal.
"« What I miss is the Bell Centre. It's such a special place to play. That, and the relationships with some teammates. Even if we won less in recent years, you build beautiful relationships. I miss that, the Bell Centre, but not the snowbanks that high! » - Jonathan Drouin"
Certainly, we are very happy to see that things are looking up for Jonathan Drouin, as there is no doubt that he has the talent to succeed in the Bettman circuit. We strongly hope that he will be able to help Jared Bednar's team make a good run in the playoffs.
