NHL Network Confirms Major Trade Rumour Involving the Canadiens
An interesting piece of information went somewhat unnoticed during the Montreal Canadiens game last night. Indeed, the excellent David Pagnotta discussed the goaltender situation at the Tricolore, specifically Jake Allen, on NHL Network.
He confirmed that rumors are intensifying a lot concerning the 33-year-old veteran, indicating that several teams have called Kent Hughes to know the price for acquiring him. Apparently, there is development in this regard, and the case could finally be resolved in the near future.
He mentioned that teams like the Carolina Hurricanes, the New Jersey Devils, and the Edmonton Oilers have all recently shown interest in the Montreal goaltender. However, a new team has also entered the race to acquire the Tricolore's number 34, namely the Vegas Golden Knights.
Wow! Hearing such statements, it seems that the Canadiens' general manager made an excellent decision to keep his goaltender longer than expected. With the trade deadline approaching, Jake Allen's value is on the rise, and the involved teams might have to engage in a bidding war to get him, possibly allowing the CH to receive an interesting return.
It should be noted that the Devils (Akira Schmid), the Hurricanes (Antti Raanta), and the Oilers (Jack Campbell) have all recently sent a goaltender to the American League, clearly looking for a solid goaltender to support their number one goalie. As for the Golden Knights, their two starting goaltenders, Adin Hill and Logan Thompson, have been injured in recent days.
"It's certainly intensifying, and just before the holiday break, there was a lot of chatter. [...] These teams want to know the price to acquire this goalie, who is signed for another additional season, to bring him in as a 1B goalie with experience. He will generate even more interest in the coming days. [...]
He's not the only Canadiens player generating interest in the trade market. There's also David Savard." - Pagnotta
Let's bet that Jake Allen, who now has to share the task with Cayden Primeau for the role of number two, would not be against the idea of getting a new opportunity to have more playing time. Certainly, there are developments, and it would not be surprising if a transaction is completed in the coming weeks.
The Tricolore's general manager might be interested in acquiring a promising young forward, such as Xavier Bourgault or Alexander Holtz, who would benefit greatly from a change of scenery.
