Montreal Canadiens Miss an Incredible Opportunity: Hometown Boy Anthony Mantha is Back on Track to Become a Star
When a player's performance declines, trade rumors often intensify, and this has been the case for Anthony Mantha over the past year.
Since his arrival in Washington, things haven't gone as hoped for the 29-year-old Quebec native. With an annual salary of $5.7 million, the Capitals have been desperately trying to offload his contract since last year, intensifying their efforts at the start of this season.
At one point, the Montreal Canadiens reportedly engaged in discussions to take on the Longueuil native's contract, but these talks fell through.
"As repeatedly reported since the beginning of the season by David Pagnotta, Kent Hughes was working with the Capitals to bring Mantha to Montreal. However, nothing materialized." - Via Keven Mawn
However, the situation seems to have significantly turned around for Mantha with the Capitals. If he continues his current pace of production, he is on track to score 30 goals this year. Wow!
"Anthony Mantha, the player the Washington Capitals seemed desperate to get rid of at the beginning of the season, is on track to score 30 goals this season."
Considering that the Caps are struggling to find the back of the net this season, Mantha has become an important part of the team's offense.
Number 39 has 10 goals and 15 points in 27 games so far, and he's just one goal away from matching his total from last year, with 40 fewer games played.
This is quite a turnaround, and we are very happy for him.
