The Next Andrei Markov is Officially in the Canadiens Organization: Top NCAA Prospect Lane Hutson is Very Special
Since being picked as late as the 62nd overall in the draft, young defenseman Lane Hutson has been the subject of much discussion.
The 19-year-old American continues to astonish with his incredible offensive performances. In his rookie season in the NCAA, he has set several league records.
Since starting with Boston University, Hutson has amassed 68 points in 54 games. Considering he is a defenseman, his performance is remarkable and he is undoubtedly one of the brightest gems of the organization along with David Reinbacher.
His future impact with the Canadiens is expected to be incredible, as he could become the worthy successor to a former player of the club who has never been replaced since his departure in 2017, namely Andrei Markov.
According to the excellent analyst Mike Johnson, Hutson will become the future quarterback of the Tricolore, a role that has been sorely missed on the power play since the Russian's departure.
Wow! This speaks volumes about Hutson's potential and the major role he will eventually play in Montreal.
Markov was undoubtedly one of the most underrated defensemen in the NHL during his career, but his impact with the CH was monstrous. He truly was the cornerstone of the defensive brigade for over a decade.
If Hutson can become that player in Martin St-Louis' lineup, his selection will be a huge coup for Kent Hughes, especially as a late second-round pick.
