Josh Anderson is indeed a topic of much discussion among Montreal Canadiens fans, unfortunately not for positive reasons.
The powerful forward is in a slump, having scored only one goal in 29 games this season, and that too into an empty net. He has only accumulated five points so far.
With an average ice time of 16 minutes and 35 seconds per game, and regular use on the power play, this drought is almost unprecedented.
Josh Anderson's situation is also a hot topic outside Montreal. Esteemed hockey journalist Elliotte Friedman discussed Anderson in a recent entry of his famous "32 Thoughts" column. Here's what he mentioned:
"Self-confidence is crucial, whether it's in sports, business, or approaching someone you find attractive. It was hard to watch Josh Anderson during the shootout of the Pittsburgh/Montreal game on Wednesday. A sad scene. He looked like he didn't want to be there. He really needs something to go his way."
For those who didn't see Anderson's attempt last Wednesday, here are the images:
During that game, the 29-year-old forward missed two nearly certain scoring opportunities on the same play. On his second attempt, he completely missed the net while the goalie was sprawled on the ice.
Anderson's performance this year, especially considering his $5.5 million contract for three more seasons, is quite concerning.
It's now evident that offers involving first-round picks, whether this summer or last year, would've been the right move.
