I believe it's safe to say that very few people could have predicted that the Montreal Canadiens would have a record above 0.500 after the holiday break.
Yet, that's exactly what has happened. Under the guidance of Martin St-Louis, the team has a record of 15-13-5 in 33 games. They are in the thick of the playoff race, and clearly, the players internally know that they have a lot of important hockey to play in the coming weeks.
In relation to their postseason aspirations, Nick Suzuki has just made a significant revelation about the current atmosphere in the locker room.
"Yes, I look at the standings. Our division is very tight. We're in it and we will have the chance to earn important points soon. Our group is confident, and we want to push to climb the rankings. The way we perform against strong teams says a lot about our group." - Nick Suzuki
The captain has admitted that the players are confident and doing everything they can to climb the standings. They are well aware that they currently have a chance to break through and surprise the hockey world.
What is most impressive is that the team is defying all predictions, even in the absence of several key players, including Kirby Dach, Alex Newhook, and Rafaël Harvey-Pinard.
At this point, the Canadiens still have a lot of work to do to secure their place in the top-8 teams for the playoffs.
However, nothing is decided yet, and if the CH players continue to play good hockey over the next few weeks, it's clear they will be involved in important games until the end of the season.
